Key Stage 3 & 4

At the Sylvia Young Theatre School we ensure that all students receive a thorough mathematical education, tailored to their own abilities and sufficiently rigorous to enable them to realise their full potential.

We currently use the Essential Mathematics (Elmwood) texts in years 7, 8 and 9. These are a differentiated textbook to cater for the setting which takes place at the school. Those in the extension groups follow a harder textbook to allow the students to be stretched mathematically.

In years 10 and 11 we use the Edexcel GCSE Mathematics texts covering both the Foundation and Higher Tiers. Each chapter starts with a number of worked examples which, alongside classroom teaching, allows students to complete exercises with numerous questions designed to bring out the very best from the students. Each chapter ends with examination questions.

The Mathematics GCSE is a modular syllabus.
