KS4 Science

At Key Stage 4 pupils follow Edexcel 360Science. The course offers stimulating and engaging content that is accessible to students of all abilities. The focus of this course is to equip pupils with knowledge and understanding of the relevance of science in their everyday life.

Year 10

Pupils are taught GCSE Science, topics covered at this stage are;

Biology (B1)
Topic 1:
Environment
Topic 2: Genes
Topic 3: Electrical and Chemical Signals
Topic 4: Use, Misuse and Abuse

Chemistry (C1)
Topic 5: Patterns in Properties
Topic 6: Making Changes
Topic 7: There’s One Earth
Topic 8: Designer Products

Physics (P1)
Topic 9: Producing and Measuring Electricity
Topic 10: You’re in Charge
Topic 11: Now You See It, Now You Don’t
Topic 12: Space and its Mysteries

Pupils will have access to a Collins Edexcel 360 Science text book that encourages all pupils to access the course content effectively. Assessment involves pupils sitting six multiple choice tiered tests that contribute to 60% of their GCSE Science grade. Pupils complete 3 assessment activities and are also assessed on their practical skills for the remainder 40% of their GCSE Science grade.

Year 11

Pupils are taught GCSE Additional Science: topics covered at this stage are;

Biology (B2)
Topic 1: Inside Living Cells
Topic 2: Divide and Develop
Topic 3: Energy Flow
Topic 4: Interdependence

Chemistry (C2)
Topic 5: Synthesis
Topic 6: In your Element
Topic 7: Chemical Structures
Topic 8: How Fast? How Furious?

Physics (P2)
Topic 9:
As Fast as You Can!
Topic 10: Roller-Coasters and Relativity
Topic 11: Putting Radiation to Use
Topic 12: Power of the Atom

Pupils are issued with a Collins Edexcel 360Science text book for GSCE Additional Science, the text book encourages all pupils to access the course content effectively.
Pupils sit two assessments for B2, C2 or P2 that include a Multiple choice tiered test and a structured tiered examination paper, in total these assessments contribute to 60% of pupil’s GCSE Additional Science grade, the remainder 40% being through completing 3 assessment activities and are assessment on practical skills.
